MILLING ROAD PRESENTS AN ECLECTIC ASSORTMENT OF DISTINCTIVE NEW LIGHTING

CHICAGO (June 27, 2005) — Designed to complement its assortment of unusual, internationally inspired furnishings, Milling Road has introduced a new collection of exotic lighting crafted from superb natural materials. These lamps have the feel of found objects, discovered on journeys to far-flung lands, imparting an air of mystery and excitement. The 15 new lamps add a depth of character and an artistic focal point while suffusing the setting with warm light. Available in a range of sizes and price points, these lamps, with their striking shapes and organic materials, offer a chic ethnic edge to any décor.

The materials used to create these lamps are rare and tactile, ranging from polished horn and seeded glass to antique forged iron and hammered nickel. The lines are clean and simple, with a crisp modernity in their straightforward styling and a comfortable proportion that makes a statement but never overwhelms the environs.

While set squarely in the present, a number of the lamps employ old-fashioned mechanisms to evoke an Old World charm and luxury. For example, the Counterbalance Table and Desk Lamps, as well as the Pulley System Desk and Table Lamps, employ turn-of-the-century engineering systems that are both decorative and functional.

Another example of the exquisite nature of these pieces is the Sommerso Glass Bottle Lamp. Its rich hues of kiwi green and deep amber are complemented by its thick solid glass walls and sensuous, tapering curves. The lamp is topped with a refined off-white chinette shade. Through its use of opulent color and remarkable materials, this lamp exudes a warm glow as if lit from within.

With the addition of lighting to its selection of rare and beautiful furnishings, Milling Road builds upon its renowned reputation for rare, hand-crafted objects for the home. While all of these new lamps are welcome and useful additions to any room, they also offer a sculptural quality that elevates them far beyond their original purpose and into the realm of art.
