NEW MILLING ROAD UPHOLSTERY OFFERS A FRESH TAKE ON TRADITIONAL SILHOUETTES

CHICAGO (April 14, 2005) - Old favorites were reborn with a creative flair when Milling Road introduced 12 new upholstered pieces at the Spring 2005 International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, N.C. These pieces have their bloodlines in early European styles, but have been pared down to their most basic elements for today's less formal interiors. These upholstered pieces offer a savvy twist on classic forms and are modern without being coldly minimalist.

The materials used to create these new looks are often uncommon and surprising. Teak, rattan and water hyacinth combine with traditional mahogany and maple to create novel forms that are fresh and stylish. The woven pieces provide an unexpected punch of texture to any setting that is novel and engaging.

A wonderful illustration of this is the Woven Host Chair. At first glance, this piece is clearly a relative of the classic 18th century dining room chair. It incorporates water hyacinth on the back and seat rails, which collaborate well with the dark teak stained legs and stretchers and tightly upholstered seat, creating a piece that provides a original look to the conventional dining room setting.
