TAILORED MENSWEAR, FEMININE STYLE AND SPLASHES OF BRILLIANT COLOR BAKER UNVEILS ITS COLORS FOR FALL

CHICAGO (October 14, 2004) - At the 2004 International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, N.C. Baker fused tailored sensibility with brilliant touches of color, texture and feminine style for its color story this season. Solids and prints, tweed, corduroy and houndstooth in shades of Ebony, Charcoal, Camel, Stone, and Stark White were accented by Bordeaux and Burgundy, cool metallics, flirty animal prints and soft fur creating a sensual, yet spirited dance of the senses.

"We layered traditional patterns with textures and deep color for an understated formality that is livable and relevant," said James Nauyok, Director - Marketing and Visual Display, Baker Knapp & Tubbs. "It is the dichotomy that creates excitement, an invitation to explore and reinvent traditional interiors. There is an unexpected juxtaposition that occurs when you mix the crisp, textured patterning of tailored menswear with bold color and soft, feminine detail that surprises and captures your attention."

Baker unveiled 72 new fabrics, 44 exclusive to Baker, and five exclusive new leathers to its textile collection this Market. Walls of taupe set with black crown molding provided a seamless, neutral backdrop for the engaging palette. Corduroy, herringbone and leather smartly contrasted silk, damask and velvet. A discriminate composition of contemporary and traditional elements wrapped the atmosphere in an air of worldly sophistication.

In concert, the palette lends depth and welcoming presence to the wood and upholstered forms, each facet thoughtfully crafted through Nauyok's exacting eye. A custom-made, plaid wool suiting fabric in a chic complement of Black, Stone and Field was designed exclusively by Baker to capture the essence of its color story this Market. Other notable fabrics shown this season included:

  • A textured, woven raffia in Ebony and Walnut or Natural colorways.
  • A geometric, cut and uncut rayon velvet diamond-within-diamond shadow stripe design in Chocolate and Celadon. Exclusive to Baker.
  • An ombre stripe with a dry, nappy texture and satin stripe detail for soft sheen in Pewter, Copper and Antique gold.
  • An Old World silk taffeta, in Twilight or Icy Blue, is set with Pewter stripes and trailing vines of embroidered velvet flowers.
  • A textured ottoman fabric with boucle yarn in tone-on-tone colors of Stone, Ivory, Chocolate, or Robin's Egg, and contrasting shades of Cream and Aqua or Khaki and Aqua. Exclusive to Baker.
