As designer of Baker's Archetype collection and Archetype for McGuire,
Vanderbyl embodies the bold, modern attitude and lifestyle that his designs reflect.
The Archetype collection-Vanderbyl's first venture in residential furniture design-offers
a fresh interpretation of the classics: an aesthetic that draws on the elegance of the 1930s and 1940s,
the modernist spirit of the 1950s and 1960s, and the real-world adaptability of today.
Michael Vanderbyl's singular talent is giving new form to traditional motifs and classic shapes.
His designs exult in simple, elegant forms, crisp silhouettes and confident, spare detailing.
A design, he believes, should be a reflection of the lifestyle that surrounds it rather than an attempt to define a "look."
Vanderbyl holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from The California College of Arts and Crafts,
where he is currently Dean of the School of Design. He has served as visiting professor at Cranbrook Academy of Art,
Kent State University, and the Universities of Cincinnati, Kansas and Washington.
